The Teacher

Lamshe (pronounced Lam-Shay) teaches the Friday morning drop-in meditation class in West Kirby.

She presents the teachings in a clear, practical and precise way that really enables you to understand how to put these teachings into practise in your busy daily life, and develop real peace of mind.

Lamshe is the only ordained teacher at Kailash Centre. She is a truly inspiring example who works tirelessly at the centre co-ordinating the education programme. She also works 3 days a week outside the centre and has 3 children, two whom are currently in university.

FAQs about weekly classes

 

These are the most common questions about our weekly meditation classes.

 

Q: What are the weekly classes about?

A: Weekly classes enable us to learn how to meditate and make steady progress in training our mind to become more peaceful. They cover all the essential ideas in Buddhism in a simple, structured and down-to-earth way.

 

Q: Do I need to be Buddhist to attend a weekly class?

A: No. We try to present Buddha’s teachings in a way that is accessible to everyone.

 

Q: Do I need to have experience of meditation or Buddhism to attend a weekly class? A: No. Everyone is welcome, especially beginners.

 

Q: If I’m a complete beginner, should I attend a weekly class or a Meditation workshop?

A: Either is fine; it really depends on your own circumstances and preference. Weekly classes are shorter and the groups are smaller, whereas weekend events attract larger audiences and take place between 10-1:30pm.

 

Q: Which weekly class is suitable for someone with some experience of meditation?

A: The teachings are designed to be simple yet profound, so that every class provides something for everyone.

 

Q: What should I expect at a weekly class?

A: The drop-in meditation classes begin with a beautiful short prayer and then a relaxing meditation. Then there will be a talk covering the basics of meditation and Buddhism, emphasising how these can be applied to daily life. Finally, there is a second meditation and questions-and-answers.  The classes conclude with tea/coffee & biscuits and an opportunity to get to know people informally. Simply meditate classes begin and end with a meditation, with a short talk in between.

 

Q: Will I be asked to say anything, or speak in front of a group of people?

A: No. But you can ask questions if you want to.

 

Q: Is there any physical exercise involved, such as yoga?

A: No. The courses focus on meditation alone and seating is in chairs at community venues – chairs or cushions at the Centre.

 

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Nothing in particular. However, some people find it useful to bring a notepad and pen.

 

Q: How should I dress?

A: There are no special requirements, but comfortable clothing is generally best. We do ask people to remove their shoes before entering the meditation room at the Centre – so for your sake you may wish to wear socks with no holes in (we don’t mind!) 🙂 

 

Q: If I want to attend a weekly class, do I need to wait for the next course of classes to begin?

A: No. Each class is self-contained. You can drop in whenever you can, and start whenever you like.

 

Q: Do I need to book in advance?

A: For weekly classes it is not necessary to book in advance.
